Cynthia Ettinger told me that she didn't start smoking until she started working on Carnivale. Apparently, the prop cigarettes made her sick, and she had to resort to real tobacco smokes. That kind of sucks, but we did have a nice bonding moment in the smoking area. In California, the state that first led this fanatical anti-smoking charge, the smokers have to stick together.
